Samsung and Huawei have already assured that they will go ahead with their respective projects related to their foldable smartphones and Apple has already shown that it does not rule out the possibility of entering the trio. Cupertino had a technology previously licensed and, in October 2018, filed another patent application that was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office, the agency responsible for evaluating and approving (or not) the intellectual property in that country.
The patent shows a shell-style smartphone a little different from the proposals presented, since the main purpose seems to be folded to fit the pocket and not to present a larger screen once opened.
In any case, the patent concerns the technology that will provide “bending” and not exactly the format in which it could occur. We talk about hinges and methods to hide them.
The application for registration in question arises as a result of numerous other patents, which have been requested by Apple since 2011, relating to the possibility of folding mobile devices. At the moment, any “shift” in this direction is at the center of attention, since there are several producers who are focusing on the format. Samsung and Huawei are ready to announce new dates and new releases .
From Apple, there is no confirmation of the interest in proceeding in the same direction, although there are more and more insistent voices. With the certainty, however, that the patents and licenses have been deposited, the brand of the bitten apple does not exclude the hypothesis.
