Huawei presents the official beta of HarmonyOS 2.0 for mobile

The beta version of the operating system developed by Huawei for its terminals was officially presented at HDC 2020 in Bejing. Operating system that comes to replace Android as the engine of its terminals. Interested application developers can now request HarmonyOS version 2.0 on the official Huawei Developer website. This version comes to facilitate efficiency in application development, provide a multitude of APIs and powerful tools such as the DevEco Studio simulator.

With this movement, it wants to open the door to new Partners to its ecosystem and that they allow access to a greater number of users to its services. HarmonyOS wants to be a pioneer when it comes to using 5G technology to improve its efficiency when browsing or significantly improve the interaction between our wearables and our mobile. Huawei’s intention is clear, to boost the industry and open possibilities towards a smart and connected life.

Innovative technology from HarmonyOS

HarmonyOS aims to transform the business of Hardware manufacturers, helping them turn products into services. Instead of being limited to the sale of a product, it will pool the hardware resources of all the devices that can be connected to each other. Thanks to this new business model, more than 20 manufacturers are already part of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

The connection between different devices has been achieved without inconvenience, allowing any user integrated in the ecosystem to have facilities such as simply touching an appliance with their phone and connecting it instantly and thus viewing all the information of said device on our mobile. At the same time, these appliances will be able to inform us natively about their operation.

HarmonyOS will become open source for a wider range of Huawei devices in the very near future. Huawei Developer events now stop in a number of major cities, including Shanghai and Guangzhou, to offer exciting discussions on future technologies and projects.

Huawei P40 family: what to expect on features and design for these flagship

The Chinese giant Huawei has presented the evolution of its famous P series, the main P40 family that is divided into three models, with two flagship cameras product.

Huawei P40

The entrance model has a full-screen design, having the display 6.1″ OLED panel, with a resolution of 2340×1080 and 19.8:9 with very thin and rounded edges on the 4 sides. Huawei P40 has a fingerprint sensor, 30% faster than its predecessors, and the front is also used for the sound reproduction, with the vibration system. Inside the Huawei P40 there is Kirin 990 octa-core, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, expandable to an additional 256 via the cards in Nano Memory format. The connectivity equipment includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6 Plus, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and all the main navigation systems.

There is both physical dual-SIM support and the ability to take advantage of eSIM.

In the upper left part of the Huawei P40 Pro display, you can see the cutout that houses the two front cameras

The main camera features f / 1.9 50 Megapixel, ultra-wide angle f / 2.2 16 Megapixel and telephoto f / 2.4 8 Megapixel with 3x optical zoom. The main sensor Ultra Vision is a CMOS 1 / 1.28 with 2.44 ?m pixels, equipped with RYYB filter and Full Pixel Octa PD Autofocus. Artificial intelligence adds further stabilization to what has already been achieved optically and electronically. AI, together with the Multi-Spectrum Color Temperature Sensor, allows you to increase color accuracy by up to 45%.

Huawei Golden Snap allows you to choose the best shots from a burst in motion, while other features allow you to remove unwanted elements or stand out in the foreground. The videos can be made in 4K.

On the front, the 32 Megapixel camera with f / 2.2 and autofocus is combined with an infrared sensor, with the possibility of exploiting the bokeh effect for portraits, also here with the help of AI but also to use the all for facial recognition.

Huawei P40 has a 3800 mAh battery with 22.5 W fast charging support, only via USB-C cable but without Qi support for wireless charging. Wide choice of shades, Ice White, Deep Sea Blue and Black with glass finishes, or Blush Gold and Silver Frost if you prefer a more opaque appearance. EMUI 10.1 is pre-installed, based on Android 10 (but without Google services), with the addition of MeeTime video calls and the enhancement of Huawei Share for the exchange of data and content with other devices.

Huawei MeeTime is a high-quality video call experience app introduced by Huawei for its high quality flagship devices.

Huawei P40 Pro

This new “quad-edge” front panel will be further reinforced by a new body design created by Huawei, which will create slight “lips” in the metal frame on the corners. The design should thus allow to protect the corners of the glass , which are usually one of the most vulnerable parts of a smartphone, from accidental falls and possible breakages.

The RYYB filter also extends here to ultra-wide-angle. Videos captured in slow motion even up to 7680 fps (but falling to 720p). Real-time bokeh simulation and possibility to make 4K movies, even in time lapse, through the telephoto lens. The audio zoom that is activated in correlation with the video one is also interesting. The rest of the hardware is identical to that of the P40, except for the native storage that rises to 256 GB and the 4200 mAh battery with 40 W quick charge wired and support also for the wireless one, which reaches 27 W.

Huawei P40 Pro+

Huawei P40 Pro+ is a further evolution of what we have seen above, starting from the design, with a nano-tech ceramic rear panel, to increase its resistance, in two available shades, White Ceramic and Black Ceramic. The cameras, with the telephoto system consisting of two sensors: the first is the same as that of the P40, while the second is an 8 Megapixel f / 4.4 periscopic that supports up to 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. The same hardware as the P40 Pro, but the storage doubles again, to 512 GB, and to further boost performance there is an advanced cooling system.

Huawei P40 and P40 Pro are at the price of € 799.90 and € 1049.90. All buyers from March 26 to May 4 will receive Huawei Watch GT2 Matte Black for free, along with additional software benefits such as 50 GB for one year on Huawei Cloud, 10 films or € 50 on Huawei Video and three months free of Huawei Music. The price and pre-order information of the P40 Pro+ will follow in the coming weeks.

This should contain a standard resolution sensor , accompanied by one of the ultra-wide type , suitable for group self-portraits.

Huawei Watch GT 2e

Huawei Watch GT 2e has a sportier design than the GT 2 models introduced a few months ago, with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen. On the hardware level, it adds to the already known rich set the monitoring of oxygen saturation in the blood. The vocation for fitness is demonstrated by the 100 available training modes that cover all the main sports activities. The battery has an autonomy of up to two weeks. GT 2e will be available from April 10 at the price of € 169 in the Graphite Black, Lava Red, Mint Green and Icy White colors, with fluorinated rubber strap. Small innovations also concern the 42 mm GT 2, now also with Champagne Gold crown and Frosty White and Chestnut Red straps.

In particular, for scoring and analyzing smartphone photo sensors, DxOMark engineers acquire and evaluate over 1500 test images and more than 2 hours of video in laboratory-controlled environments and in internal and external natural scenes. “The Huawei Mate 10 Pro excels for photography in which they get a phenomenal 100-point sub-score, corresponding to the currently highest sub-scoring, Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Its strengths include the excellent exposures, especially in indoor conditions, the excellent focal opening, which produces a bland but beautiful bokeh effect with few artifacts and excellent automatic performance. ”

“The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is also a very capable performer in video mode , achieving a 91-video score. Autofocus is fast and accurate, with good monitoring capabilities and generally low noise levels , ” observes DxOMark in his relationship. The Mate 10 Pro has obtained very high scores for its exposure and contrast, color and autofocus for both photos and videos, beating Pixel 2 with regard to bokeh portraits, noises, artifacts and zoom. However, DxOMark also claimed that Mate 10 Pro may sometimes exhibit instability in the display, while shooting consecutive images and artifacts, sometimes visible, concerning sky-shots.
